Good enough for the big screen

Our linen tablecloths were chosen to feature in the rom-com movie, "Anyone But You" starring Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney. Here's the behind the scenes story of how French Affair's custom linen tablecloths ended up on the big screen.

Linen Fabric

You’ll love the look and feel of natural linen which becomes softer and more luxurious with each wash. Linen is easy to look after. Just follow these simple steps.

Help! How To Fix a Stain

Immediately saturate the stain with either laundry stain remover or soda water. Do not rub – just let the liquid soak in. Let it sit while you finish your meal, then wash as usual.

How to Wash Your Linen Tablecloth

Linen is made from flax, a natural fibre that can absorb a lot of water and is prone to creasing.

  • For best results, wash on it’s own – not in a machine full with lots of other items. Give items a lot of space to move around in the drum to reduce creasing.
  • Select a gentle machine wash up to about 40 C. Use a gentle detergent without bleach.
  • When finished, immediately remove the tablecloth to avoid extra creasing from sitting damp in the drum.
  • Line drying is best. If required linen can be tumbled dried at low temperatures. To avoid creasing, don't overload and remove the tablecloth as soon as it's finished drying.
  • You don’t need to iron your tablecloth as natural creases can add a relaxed charm. If you want it to be completely wrinkle free, iron while it’s still slightly damp. Use a medium setting with steam.

Choose your round tablecloth size

Sizes shown are tablecloth measurements. Choose a cloth larger than your table to allow for overhang.

Measure straight across the centre of your tabletop. This is its diameter. Decide how far you would like the cloth to hang over the edge, then add that amount twice.

For a table measuring 140 cm across with 20 cm overhang on each side:

140 + 20 + 20 = 180 cm

Choose a 180 cm round tablecloth.

To check the overhang of an available size, subtract your table diameter from the tablecloth diameter, then divide by two. A 180 cm cloth on a 140 cm table gives 20 cm overhang all around.

Around 15 to 25 cm is a useful starting point. Seating labels are approximate, so use your table measurement to choose.

You might like to know

What is the tablecloth made from?

It’s a 50% linen and 50% cotton blend, with a weight of 210 gsm. The linen is high quality European long fibre linen. The cotton is American Pima, an extra long staple variety whose longer fibres make it stronger and more durable than standard cotton.

Is the fabric stain resistant?

No. The fabric has no stain resistant treatment, so spills can soak in. Blot spills promptly and follow the Care Instructions tab for washing guidance.

Can I wash the tablecloth?

Absolutely. It’s machine washable, so you can enjoy using it for everyday meals as well as special occasions. See the Care Instructions tab for washing guidance.

How much tablecloth overhang should I allow?

Around 15 to 25 cm on each side is a useful guide, but it comes down to the look you like and how your table is used.

Subtract your table’s diameter from the tablecloth’s diameter, then divide by two to see how much overhang you will have all the way around.

For example, a 180 cm round tablecloth on a 140 cm round table gives 20 cm overhang all the way around.

For more help, read our guide to the ideal overhang for your table.

Can you make a custom size?

Yes. We can make a linen and cotton blend tablecloth up to 300 cm wide and in any length. Contact us with your table measurements and preferred overhang, and we’ll confirm the size and price.

Where is the tablecloth made?

We import the quality linen and cotton blend fabric from Europe. Every tablecloth is handmade by us here in Australia.

Can I feel the fabric before buying?

Yes. Our fabric sample pack includes the white linen cotton blend, so you can feel its texture and see the colour at home before choosing your tablecloth.
