Louis XIX - King for the Shortest Time

Louis XIX

Let me explain this surprising story! Recorded as the shortest reign in the French history, Louis XIX was indeed an ephemeral King for 20 minutes.

Charles X abdicated in 1830 due to the July Revolution. He let the throne to his son Louis-Antoine who became king under the name of Louis XIX. However, under pressure from his father who didn’t consider his son was suitable to reign and with the protests from the streets, the new king relinquished its hold on power in favour of his nephew, Duke of Bordeaux.

In the meantime, 20 minutes flew by between the abdication of Charles X and the renouncement of the throne from Louis XIX.

After this short reign, Louis XIX left for exile in Scotland and never returned to France!
